To me, in theater, collaboration is that dial you're always trying to get to exactly the right setting. In theater, it *has* to be valuable, because there's no way you're getting out ot it. So you have to *make* it valuable, primarily by seeking out those rare collaborators who get your sensibility almost instinctively but who also know the precise points on which to challenge you.
