I was thinking the other day "I wonder where the phrase `big wigs' comes from?" And, rather than look it up, I thought to myself "wait a minute, Parabasis readers are a group of funny, creative people and many of them are writers, I should just ask them to make one up for me".
So go, Parabasis readers! Make up an origin story for the phrase "big wigs"!
Obviously, this originates in 18th-century France. The aristocracy wore REALLY big wigs.

Ok, I'll make something up.
It has been rumored that the Irish potato famine was in fact not caused by diseased potatoes, but by members of the Whig party stealing potatoes late at night. The excessive carbohydrate consumption caused an obesity epidemic among Whig party members, and so, they became known as "Big Whigs." This was later abbreviated to "Big Wigs."
