Hot off dismissing Outrageous Fortune as all a bunch of whining, Chris Jones slams The Good Wife's terrible parody of Steppenwolf by... blaming the actors for not protesting it hard enough? Um, okay. Maybe Chris Jones should try protesting all of the crazy antics of the owners of his company sometime and see how that works out for him.
It was a really odd scene, though! I know it was meant to play up the absurdity and tedium of the charity event, but a) I've been to lots of charity events and have never seen anything like that (selections from a musical, yes, scenes from a play with a puppet cow, no), and b) why did they make it Steppenwolf instead of one of the bazillion fringe companies in Chicago, or just making something up?
I LOVE The Good Wife, partly because it usually has a perfect tone. It's able to be funny without ever feeling unrealistic or silly. It often feels more New York than Chicago, it at least feels pretty real. I wasn't offended for Steppenwolf, but I was jolted out of my suspension of disbelief.

ZING!
I still need to watch the scene, but it read like he was overreacting to the scene. Although, I'm more curious why of all of the notable Chicago theater companies the writers picked Steppenwolf, unless it was an in joke because a few of the ensemble members have appeared on The Good Wife.

Good stuff as per usual, thanks. I do hope this kind of thing gets more exposure.
