No Pulitzer for Fiction. My guess is that the literary establishment will not react to this with the gleeful self-loathing that theatre people do and instead will treat it as another sign that the Pulitzer board is out of touch or that there was some kind of interfactional squabble between the fiction judges and the panel at large.
And if this is true, there's a lesson to be learned there for those theatre writings who just can't wait to shit on the medium they cover because it didn't win a big prize. Who knows, maybe book reviewers and authors will start writing "Is The New Novel Dead?" or "Are New Novelists Just No Good Because They Don't Write Like [Great Dead White Man]" columns and prove me wrong.
