“The scars of Vietnam on this nation's psyche get deeper and longer the more time passes, like shadows at the end of the day. It may still be a while yet before the sun sets.”

I spent the last twenty minutes thinking about these two sentences. Upon first read, it seemed to be a beautiful and compelling metaphor. After about ten minutes I felt I disagreed with what it says, and after the next ten minutes, the passage seemed almost entirely nonsensical. I thought to myself - It’s an otherwise very informative and well-written post, why focus on this one passage? But I can’t help but wonder two things: Do you really believe what you say here? And – What do you say here?
