Since I live in Alabama and actually watch WHNT, thought I'd drop you a comment. We weren't tuned in to 60 Minutes on Sunday because the whole Siegelman thing is old news here. We did, however, catch the replay of the Siegelman thing on the 6 p.m. newscast. The station opted to not broadcast commercials during the news, ended their local newscast around 6:15 p.m. and rebroadcast the whole 60 Minutes segment.

From what I remember, the station said that this was their second rebroadcast. The first rebroadcast was at 10 p.m. on Sunday. They did post the segment on their website as well. The anchors appeared very embarrassed by the whole thing - not in a phony way either.

Anyway, we watched the whole thing. Since I'm a newbie to Alabama, I asked my native Alabamian fiance if he thought it was done on purpose. He says he doubts it, only because they were quick to rebroadcast it and they'd catch hell if they did do it on purpose. As well, that segment was advertised quite a bit at that station. It was bound to bring in good ratings for the station.

I don't know what I believe. Some of the stations here have a remarkable amount of broadcasting incompetence, which throws me on the fence just a little. I mean, we spend most of our time here giggling at the mistakes.

But I do appreciate the blogosphere going after the situation. If it was just a remarkable coincidence (smirk) then they reprimand the people responsible.

By the way, that's not a cable network. It's a rinky-dink station which looks like it employs recent college grads for its reporting jobs. ;)
