I just stumbled across your post here and I do realize that it's quite old, but, as a drummer and an instructor, I appreciate everything you've put forth here. If only everyone that asked me that same question would appreciate this reply as much as I do. Godspeed sir.

I also came from playing the keyboards before taking up drumming. I had to know how to make it sound natural or human, especially how the brass cymbals sound whenever I'm sequencing the tracks for our cover band. As the arranger/sequencer, I really need to learn the basics of the other instruments to make my keyboards sound good and natural on stage, even if I have the musical sheets of the missing pieces.
