That tax break extension has hit me with a sense of hopelessness like no other bill that has been passed. It's like a healthy adult sitting around arguing that he, rather than the sick child sitting next to him should get antibiotics. I know that's a weird analogy, but it kind of feels that way. It's such a no brainer. It's obvious what the moral, just, and beyond that, economically helpful thing to do is, and it didn't get done. This isn't about religion, philosophical ideas about the role of government, it's about the people at the top trying to go beyond the top, and not caring about the middle and lower classes.
